California and the West

Sea, mountains, cities, deserts, canyons..be prepared to see the best of the United States!

Welcome to the Far West, the beating heart of the United States! Its cities with their breathtaking vistas have served as the setting for countless movies and novels that have remained impressed in the collective memory, so much so you will probably have the impression you have already been here…but let’s get one thing clear: no photo or picture will ever be worth a single horseback ride through Monument Valley, a view of infinite extension of the Grand Canyon or a walk among San Franscisco hills! So many regions in the United States deserve a visit, but you will never find such a concentration of wonders as in these four states…

Which states does it include?

California
Arizona
Utah
Nevada

When to go?

Summer is the warmest season with hot temperature everywhere. More mild weather during the spring and moderate winters with good temperature, except by the northern California with rains and snowfalls.

Are you ready to put on your sunglasses, get in a shiny cabrio and shoot along the windy roads of the coast of California? Or to ride a 4x4 along the dusty roads of the Death Valley or Canyonlands? Everything that you associate with the United States is here: sun, beaches, movie stars, canyons, rocky deserts, men in cowboy hats and boots, the crazy, eccentric Las Vegas casinos, horseback rides along the Colorado River, the magic of Disneyland…Each of these states deserves a visit of its own, but seeing all four of them in a single adventurous “on the road” experience will give you a chance to get the best possible taste of the USA, admiring a completely new scenery each day!

California

One of the best places in the United States, no doubt about it

“California dreaming on such a winter’s day”…California is definitely the state that, for most people, embodies the United States spirit the best: once the destination of the gold rush, it was then transformed in the land of a thousand opportunities for anyone looking for fame in the world of cinema, and later yet it became the cradle of the information technology.

Hollywood and Silicon Valley are just two small aspects of California: it is incredible how many wonders and how many different landscapes this magnificent state has to offer. From astonishing deserts like the Death Valley and Mojave Desert to the gorgeous mountain parks like Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings Canyon, to crowded surf beaches in Malibu and Santa Monica and exclusive ski resorts like South Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes, all the way to the soft hills of the Napa Valley and Santa Barbara, covered in vineyards yielding some remarkable wines…And that’s without even mentioning the three main cities of California – each of them alone would make the cost of your ticket more than pay off.

San Francisco: the most European of the West Coast cities and the most lively from a cultural point of view, with a rich allure of its steep streets and cable cars, its marvelous bay with the Alcatraz in the middle and the Golden Gate Bridge that extends over the horizon. Los Angeles: one of the largest cities in the world, with its amazing neighborhoods like Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Venice, and attractions that include Disneyland and Universal Studios.
Finally, San Diego: the oldest of the Californian cities and at the same time the youngest, with its young surfers that crowd the beaches at day and go crazy in the clubs at night. And if you are looking to spend a bit more alternative evening, Tijuana is just 20 miles away…All in all: there isn’t a single corner in California that doesn’t deserve a visit.
After all, all that fame can’t be for nothing!

Arizona

Deserts, red lands, giant cactus and the Grand Canyon, Unesco World Heritage

The Grand Canyon State” – that’s what Arizona license plates say, but don’t let it make you think Grand Canyon is all there is to see in this state!
When it comes to nature wonders, there are so many things that will simply take your breath away: Sedona, for example, surrounded as it is by the red rock monoliths, an authentic miracle of nature; the amazing peaks of the Chiricahua Mountains that will transport you to a lunar landscape, the Petrified Forest, with its fossils, will bring you some 225 million years back in time, the Canyon de Chelly, which, in addition to being a magnificent rock formation, with its vertical walls that go beyond 300m of altitude, will allow you to explore remains of the ancient villages of primitive populations that used to inhabit the area. The Page area, with its concentration of sensational vistas: in addition to the crystal-clear lakes of the Lake Powell you will be able to admire the Paria Canyon Vermillion Cliffs; the Horseshoe Bend (the point in which the Colorado River creates a horseshoe-shaped curve), the giant cactus of the beautiful Saguaro National Park in the southernmost part of the State and the hidden pearl that is the Antelope Canyon…

And, although half of it lies in Utah, how can we not mention Monument Valley? The setting of so many western movies, this park, with its unmistakeable rocky peaks that seem to magically emerge from the soil, is one of the most impressive sights you will bring from this trip. And then, yes, Grand Canyon, Unesco World Heritage site, whose majestic beauty will leave you with your mouth wide open.
To visit it in its entirety you would have to take a separate trip (it is almost 500km long, and to reach the Colorado River you have to walk over 1,600m), but even a few stops at some of the viewing points will do the trick.
If you are a road movie fan, don’t forget that only in Arizona you can travel along an actual, authentic part of the legendary Route 66!

Utah

A tour of the greatest canyons in Utah and the most beautiful mountain landscapes. Life elevated in Utah!

Utah is a state that often gets underestimated: most people know it as the Mormon homeland in which it is quite hard to find a place that serves alcoholic beverages, but in fact Utah offers scenery that without a doubt makes it one of the most beautiful states in the entire USA.
And it is definitely one of the most diverse: in Utah, you can find deserts in the west, white mountains in the north-east (some of which are more than 4.000m high, and remember that Salt Lake City, with its 2.002m of altitude, was the host of the Winter Olympics in 2002!) and finally the magnificent sandstone landscapes in the southern region, creating spectacular vistas from the classic Western movies.
It is precisely this southern region that is the most present in the tours that we offer. Following a single road, you can see a number of breath-taking parks, one more beautiful than the other: Zion National Park, with its canyons, caves and falls; the Bryce Canyon, the gorgeous arena of spiked rock; the Escalante National Monument, with so many different-colored rocks; Canyonlands, huge, diverse and still largely unexplored; the Dead Horse Point, from which you can admire infinite canyons that the Colorado River formed over time; Arches National Park, which has the highest concentration of naturally-formed arches in the world; all the way to Monument Valley, which extends between Utah and Arizona and is one of the most famous and most beautiful protected area in the United States.
It is incredible that all these wonders are waiting for you along mere 500km of the road! All in all, maybe you’ll have a hard time locating a bar that will serve you a nice cold beer, but Utah is a paradise for nature lovers and those interested in outdoor activities such as kayaking, cycling, hiking, climbing and skiing. Those less athletic and more culturally inclined shouldn’t despair either:
Utah is the host of the most famous festival of independent film in the world – the famous Sundance Film Festival

Nevada

Desert, military bases, rodeos, the Burning Man and...Las Vegas!

Wait a second – what are the venetian Grand Canal, an egyptian pyramid, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty doing in the middle of a desert?!

Welcome to Las Vegas, the world capital of excess and of architectural craziness! Created essentially as a place in which the mafia magnates would launder their dirty money building casinos, the city is today a favorite destination of millions of tourists in search of entertainment and fortune or perhaps just curious to see the paradoxical absurdities of such a luxurious city built in the middle of one of the most barren regions in the whole North America. Even though it may seem a crazy and immoral place, an evening spent along the Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) will remain a touching and unforgettable memory…
The casino hotels and resorts you will see here seem to be competing for the title of the most incredible: Bellagio, with its huge artificial lake in which every 15 minutes the fountains do a spectacular choreography, Venetian, a pitch-perfect replica of Venice, in which you can take a gondola ride along one of the famous canals, Luxor, an enormous glass pyramid with a sphinx in front of it, the Vdara and the trendy Cosmopolitan, with their elegant postmodern architecture. Yes, but is there anything to do during the day? You can relax in one of the hotel pools, which are often just as sumptuous and kitschy as the hotels themselves, or, if you still have some money in your pocket, you can go shopping in one of the huge outlets in the southern area of the city. And the rest of Nevada? Even though it is one of the largest states in the USA, it is, at the same time, one of the least populated ones, being made up largely of huge desert territories. In the western portion of the state, you can pass through Carson City, which, unbeknownst to many, is actually the state capital, and Reno, known as “The biggest little city in the world.” If you are a fan of mysteries and conspiracy theories, you can try to reach Area 51, a large military area located to the north-west of Las Vegas and one of the top secret locations of the american government…just don’t expect they’ll let you in!
